Why Jesus?

God can take the worst
things...and turn them into
something beautiful.”

- Matthew West
“Why should I follow Jesus?” The truth is, God loves you. He wants you to experience peace and an eternal home. He loves you so much that He gave His son to die for your sins.

That’s great that God loves me, but why should I follow Jesus?

Because at some point in your life, you’ve messed up. God didn’t make you into a robot that automatically loves Him and obeys Him. He gave you a choice. And all too often, the choice is the wrong one, and it causes a separation from God.

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. - Romans 3:23

The Answer

You matter to God. He’s given an avenue for forgiveness where you can fix your relationship with Him. He gave His son, Jesus, to pay your death penalty by sending Him to the cross and raising Him from the grave.

Christ suffered for our sins once for all time. He never sinned, but He died for sinners to bring you safely home to God.- 1 Peter 3:18

So, now what?

It’s not enough to just know about this, or even agree with it. Act on it.
  1. Humbly admit that you need God's forgiveness
  2. Confess that Jesus is Lord and that He alone can save you from your mistakes
  3. Believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the grave to pay the price for your sins

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. - Romans 10:9

This song Speaks...

Can you relate to this picture?

This bright leaf with it's weathered holes stands out in this "pile of junk". Sometimes we can feel like this. Stand strong & beautiful like this leaf, because like the pots around it, God can transplant us into a better garden. We must look to the Heavens for His strength. Like the leaf looks to the Sun for it's nourishment...and Who is the Sun...or Son...our Light for Salvation and Life!

What the Word says...

You brought us from Egypt like a grapevine; you drove away the pagan nations and transplanted us into your land.
Psalm 80:8 NLT

For they are transplanted to the Lord’s own house. They flourish in the courts of our God.
Psalm 92:13 NLT

verse of the day

There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.

Looking Past

Given to me

God is for my pain,
the Spirit is for my Heart,
and Jesus is for my Life!

How I feel after...

God gave me this song to replace a little pain...

How Good I Feel

God is good! Yesterday I went through something that I couldn't control but I knew I was good...through God who gives me strength. TY Jesus! You cannot control what others say and the words they use to hurt (that's the uncontrollable part) but if you know who your strength is..come on now..the Lord IS my Strength & Salvation and I will not let others jeapordize that..even those who may be close to me. I understand others will "fail" me but you Lord are Loving and keep me Free! The fight is yours God and the battle is mine and if You before me Jesus then Glory is the beginning to my life. TY God for capturing me! TY God for giving me the patience & obedience to think of you first.

verse of the day:

For our present troubles are small and won't last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

Anberlin - The Unwinding Cable Car

What I need to work on today...

It's definately patience! I allowed myself, actually I gave into the enemy's trap in an incident that wasn't bad in nature but it could've been handled a little better. It was something that I had to stand against as my Pastor's been talking about lately. It's very relivent today Lol! That's why he says "that he feels it's a right now word"..lol. Very cool how "things" later pop in your head when the Spirit gives them (those wonderful thoughts) to us. How it all comes together later, if you didn't get it then. TY Jesus for the understanding & wisdom you give. Help me be stronger to stand against the principalities of this earth because I call myself Not Of This Earth. I call myself strong in you Lord. If God before us then who can be against us. Yes, the strength to resist..to stand against & the peace with in so I can think of You first God. Amen.

Living the Christian Life

When you decide to follow Jesus, you're a “new creation” (2 Corinthians 5:17). You have the opportunity to start over; your past sins have been forgiven. So what now? We want to help you grow closer to God and strengthen your faith. Here are some tips to get you going:
  1. Read Your Bible Every DayThe Bible is inspired by God and is meant to give us a guide for living by. It has answers and tips to help you please God. If you're looking for a place to start, try the book of Luke in the New Testament. It tells the story of Jesus and lessons on how to live life. The book of Acts is a great follow up; it tells the story of how Christ’s disciples spread the message of Jesus' death, burial and resurrection.

As you read, ask for God to help you understand His Word. Open my eyes to see the wonderful truths in your law (Psalm 119:18). Don't just read the words, study and analyze it. Write down questions you have and ask a pastor or a knowledgeable Christian to help understanding the messages.
  2. Pray with God Every Day
Talk with God frequently. Tell Him your problems and thank Him for who He is and what He's done. Confess your sins and admit your weaknesses to God. Ask Him to help show you how to a better life that pleases Him. Pray for others, that they too may follow Jesus and surrender control of their lives to Him.
  3. Depend on the Holy Spirit When you choose to follow Jesus, the Holy Spirit actually lives within you (Romans 5:5; John 14:16-17). The Holy Spirit will teach you, guide you, and strengthen you in times of need.
  4. Attend Church Regularly
When you became a Christian, you formed an authentic personal relationship with Jesus. It is important, though, to also have authentic connections with other Christians. In a fireplace, many logs burn together. They create heat and warmth, but one log alone will quickly die out. Likewise, we too need other believers to keep our faith vibrant and growing. Churches are places where you can worship God and make Him the focus of your life with other like-minded individuals.
  5. Be of Service to Others
Jesus wants us to give our lives to serve Him, and to serve others. If you try to keep your life for yourself, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will find true life (Mark 8:35). The more you give yourself to others, the more you will enjoy your Christian life.
  6. Conquer Your Doubts
Everyone has doubts, and especially when it comes to our faith. Perhaps you have failed or surrendered repeatedly to temptation, and you doubt that you are really a Christian. Remember, you were not saved because of the good things you do, but rather by putting your trust in what Christ has already done for you. Trust God’s Word over your own subjective feelings. I write this to you who believe in the Son of God, so that you many know that you have eternal life (I John 5:13).
  7. Live One Day at a Time
We often become anxious about what might happen tomorrow. God promises that He will meet our needs if we will seek first His righteousness (see Matthew 6:33-34). God’s grace will be sufficient enough to meet the obstacles that each new day brings.
  8. Learn How to Deal with Temptation
Temptation is a part of life and will not go away when you become a Christian. You're not helpless though, and you do not have to yield to the temptation to sin. God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Take advantage of God’s “way out” of temptation, whether it means that you “flee” the scene of temptation (I Timothy 6:11), or that you stay and “resist” it (James 4:7; I Peter 5:8-9).
  9. Tell Others About Jesus
Tell others about your commitment to follow Jesus--by word or by action. It can be one of the most satisfying and exciting experiences in your life. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have (I Peter 3:15).

verse of the day

For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:10 NLT

Thoughts of Yesterday...

What did I learn..Patience on the Lord. To wait, trust, rely and believe in God alone above everything else. That sometimes we can "talk" ourselves out of blessings if our "position" isn't right. I continue to learn and stay humble in knowing it is all for God and everything we have is from Him. Our purpose here on this earth that the Lord has made is..what can we do for His Glory! They key to victory is: to be in continual contact and communication with the Holy Spirit. Seeking, trusting, believing and possessing what He has for us. My game plan for this proccess ahead is: asking Jesus to be my offense, which being the Almighty and "if God before us who can be against us" is all we need to overcome and stand victorious. Praise God. Knowing myself I need a defense from myself, yes I'm just keeping this real. My defense is the scriptures that "jump out" to me when studying my bible, reminding me that I am not smarter than God, reminding me that He is greater than anything I may face. Confirming in His book of truth to only trust in Him & to continually seek Him...and victory shall be achieved.

The Process

This topic has really been waying on my heart lately as a subject that the Spirit wants me to focus on. It is actually something that I'm going through right now. The Process to me is the time in which great change happens in our lives. The changes that will be our testimony and story for others to hear how this Jesus of ours forgives and restores. It's in this time that we learn, grow and strengthen ourselves for what He has called us for. I am amazed daily at the wisdom and understanding He gives, loving His timing. Knowing that anything I may face, I can overcome with His strength. The Process is not meant to be easy because it's in the daily battles of life, choosing to fight for our faith and not giving up that we give Him glory. Choosing to call on the name of Jesus for strength now not relying on our own. The Process is being able to be lead without question knowing that who you trust in has ultimate authority. Praise God.

One sentence

I have this book that I started reading through the mens group at my church called Man Up by Dr. Cliff Self. I really don't know what compelled me to pick it up again as it's been collecting dust in the back seat of my car. It is a great book though but as I thumbed through to where I last left off at chapter 4, I got situated in the back yard to catch some sun too. The weather has been great lately. It wasn't but one page into chapter 4 when I came across a sentence that described the difference between love & lust perfectly. Dr. Self said: "Love satisfies you at my expense, and lust satisfies me at your expense". You ever read anything that needs no explaination...just a little back drop.

Isn't it awesome when you go through something that makes you stronger & wiser. What pulls us through & is our strength...the love of Jesus. I was reading the whole book of Ecclesiastes (Pastor recommendation) and I thank God for the understanding and place I was in for this book to really be planted in me. Now I've read cetain "passages" here & there when something caught my "interest" but this book moved me. Plus God's timing is what? Always on time! So if you ever have a chance to read some wisdom from a King of this earth who had it all, I mean had everything and still wasn't happy...read this book of Ecclesiastes. What stood out for me was Ecc. 7:25, 8:5-8, 12:13&14.

what Z7 is feelin' today

Encouragement...is a very powerful word that has the ability to strengthen someone. Whether it be a kind word, endearments, praises, advice from the heart or a simple smile. We all have the ability to help someone or brighten their day. How easily said...right? Yes, we all at times get caught up in our own "stuff" I know but we all need to lose a little more of ourselves to look outward at others. So today make it a point to put a smile on someone's face and remember the Grace, Love & Mercy that was given to us. <><

verse of the day

“[More on Love and Hatred] For this is the message you heard from the beginning: We should love one another.” - 1 John 3:11

I am a Christian

I am a Christian
by Maya Angelou

When I say "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I am saved."
I'm whispering "I get lost"
That is why I chose this way.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
And need someone to be my guide.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I am weak
And pray for strength to carry on.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed
And cannot ever pay the debt.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are too visible
But God believes I'm worth it.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
Which is why I seek HIS name.

When I say "I am a Christian"
I do not wish to judge.
I have no authority
I only know I'm loved.

Men's Meeting Update

Motorcycles, cars, trucks, music, great tacos, live boxing exhibition, pizza and some UFC fights on screen. Well who attended you might ask..right? Fathers, sons, pators, addicts, gang members, professionals, students, sinners and no saints. The topic of the message was for men to take back the spiritual leadership of the family and our lives. The women of our families (to those that apply) have been carrying most of the weight in keeping the family together. To all the women...TY for all that you do! To some being the provider is enough "I put food on the table" or "I pay the bills here" and think that's the "man's" job. To those that are not providers yet, you must believe that Jesus can change you & your situation to becoming that man. We need to be the men who: prays over his kids & with his kids, loves his wife like Christ loved the church, who can save himself for marriage & be an example to our children, family and friends of what a Real Man is.We all must remember that God is the only provider. We know that He gives us our everything then we need to stand on that security..right? Let's remember who He is: Faithful, Everlasting, On Time, Almighty, Redeemer, Most High, Protector, Deliverer & Healer. Do I need to go on? Call to Jesus and invite Him in to remove, change & renew you. Damon "brought it"! Men's Meeting Rocks! <><

verse of the day

“For the word of the LORD is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. The LORD loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.” - Psalm 33:4-5

Rock and Worship Roadshow 2011

Who is greater?

God is greater than any problem we may encounter! Praise Jesus! It is so true that "through Him all things are possible"...when we lose of ourselves and give Him our everything. When we recognize that He is greater than what we can give to ourselves the doorways of Victory start opening for us! TY Jesus! He is just an invitation away...give Him your praises & worries that you may have today. Call out to Him and give Him your heart! He is Faithful! Be expecting that Jesus will bless you and answer your prayers.<><

verse of the day

"For the director of music. Of David the servant of the LORD. He sang to the LORD the words of this song when the LORD delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said: I love you, LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.” - Psalm 18:1-2

The Movement Poem

verse of the day

“But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.” - Psalm 59:16

TY Jesus!

Isn't it wonderful when your "battling something" and you come to find that Jesus is greater than what your feeling and everything else doesn't matter but to not disappoint HIM! Is it really easy to give up on ourselves or other people? Then it passes and I'm stronger & thankful. Once again my faithful Lord you have saved me from so much! Praise Jesus! I must decrease so HE can increase. So what did I learn..I am strong but He is ALMIGHTY!! <><
